John Mee

John is a bell ringer, a host of the Leeds Little Free Library in Oakwood, a conversationalist who gets huge excitement from working in drama with people of all ages in all sorts of settings.

He has worked locally, nationally and internationally as an artist educator specialising in drama as education and as teacher, theatre manager, researcher, lecturer, performer, and theatre company director.

He is a founder member of Alive And Kicking Theatre Company working in Yorkshire and beyond as a creativity machine for children, young people and families and as a seed bed for local arts workers.

John’s lecturing record for Leeds Beckett University has investigated and promoted the use of drama in teacher education, playwork, health education and youth and community work. He founded the Leeds Polytechnic Studio Theatre and became Creative Education Consultant for Leeds Playhouse from the late 90’s over a 20 year period.

Currently you might find him as Edward the Explorer, Charles Brown from the Foreign Office, Frederick the Fisherman from Filey, Gordon the Goosekeeper, Old Tom who keeps the harbour tidy or Paul the Pilot in lots of local nursery and primary schools.
